WHAT CAREER IS RIGHT FOR ME

The goal of this exercise is to find a career that suits your passions, natural talents, and acquired skills, as well as your monetary needs, to learn about what it takes to get into that career, and to know what you can expect from that career.
  1. To start you will need to take the Reality Check test to figure out what kind of salary you need to make in order to live the lifestyle you want to live. You can do this at ​https://texasrealitycheck.com/. Click on the Start Your Reality Check button, take the 15-part test, and save/print the results as a pdf by pressing CTRL-P on the Total Expenses page, and save the file to your Google Drive as "Career Reality Check"
  2. Next you need fill out a questionnaire over what you are passionate about and what you are good at. Go to https://texascareercheck.com/ExploreCareer/InterestProfiler. Take the 4-part test and print the webpage as a pdf by pressing CTRL-P on the Scores page, and save it to your Google Drive as "Career Interest Profiler". Lastly, look through the Interest Profiler career list and pick one that matches your interests, salary preference, and projected openings preference, then save/print that Occupation Summary as a pdf by pressing CTRL-P on the Occupation Summary page, and save it to your Google Drive as "Career Occupation Summary"
Feel free to look around the sites and research any careers you are interested in. You are welcome to save multiple options for each of the tests.

When you are finished doing your surveys, you should print each of the results as pdfs and save them to your Google Drive class folder. You will end up with 3 pdfs with these names: Career Reality Check, Career Interest Profiler, and Career Occupation Summary.

As you are looking up your jobs, open up a Word document and take notes on the details of each job.
For each of the 5 jobs you should list on you Word document the job's:

(Summary, Description)
Requirements:
Compensation:
(Pay, Benefits)
Process: (for applying for the job)
Source: (URL for the website where you found the job)

When you are finished looking for jobs, write a summary of what you learned; discussing the top 5 jobs that you find available. Try not to research the same type of job more than one. Follow the format given in the downloadable pdf below for writing your summary.

FINANCIAL PLANNING

The video below will not only help you to learn a little about how to use Excel, but it will help you to create a powerful tool that you can use to make sound financial decisions. When you are finished you need write a 3 part summary of what you learned using the format in the pdf worksheet below, and staple it to a print out of a 15 year portion of this spreadsheet you completed.

THE FORMULA FOR ARCHITECTURE

The following video will explain to you the major elements of Architectural design and what you should be thinking about when you are designing your projects. When finished watching the presentation, you can write a 3-part summary of what you learned using the same format as in the previous discussion topics, or you can research 2 famous Architectural projects and create your own PowerPoint quiz slides to match the ones in the presentation.
